Fabrication Details

Windowsills are cut with a 2–3 degree rear-to-front slope for water runoff. External sills include a drip groove on the underside. Skirting boards are mitre-cut at all internal and external corners. Threshold edges are bevelled for smooth wheelchair and pram access. All pieces are numbered for installation sequence and delivered with matching joint filler.

FAQ

What thickness should a marble windowsill be?
20 mm is the standard for most residential windows. For bay windows, wide projections over 300 mm, or a more substantial visual appearance, 30 mm is recommended. External sills are typically 20–30 mm.

Can marble sills be used for external windows?
Yes. Use a flamed or honed finish with an external-grade sealer. Ensure the sill has a 2–3 degree downward slope and a drip groove underneath to channel water away from the wall. Travertine or granite are also excellent choices.

How are marble skirting boards fixed?
Marble skirting is bonded to the wall with high-strength construction adhesive. For heights above 150 mm, additional mechanical fixings (invisible brackets or stainless steel pins) are used. The top edge is polished; the bottom edge sits flush to the floor.

Do you supply matching windowsills and skirting for a whole project?
Yes. We coordinate all sill, skirting, threshold, and border pieces from the same slab batch to ensure colour and veining consistency. A complete material takeoff is provided before fabrication.

Can marble windowsills and skirting be installed with underfloor heating?
Yes. Marble conducts heat well. Ensure a flexible adhesive is used and an expansion gap (3–5 mm) is left between the skirting and floor to accommodate thermal movement.

Do you offer installation or only supply?
We supply materials only or a full supply-and-install package. For installation, our experienced stone fitters handle the entire process from preparation to final sealing.
