Piston Bioclimatic Pergola: Louvres Rotating 100°-115°
Last updated:
The piston bioclimatic pergola is a louvred aluminium roof whose blades rotate between 100° and 115° on a piston mechanism, so light, shade and airflow can be set precisely at any hour. Closed, EPDM gaskets give full rain protection. Built to order for residential and commercial projects.

What sets the piston system apart
On a piston bioclimatic pergola the roof stays where it is and the blades do the work. Every louvre is linked to a linear piston drive, and a T12 timing belt moves the set together, so all blades follow the same angle. You do not open or close the roof; you tune it. A low setting lets the evening sun in at a flat angle; a steep one blocks midday heat while still letting air pass between the blades.
For many sites that is the better trade. The roof never disappears, so there is always overhead cover and a clear line for lighting, heaters or screens. If instead you want the whole roof to vanish for an open-sky evening, the scissor bioclimatic pergola is the right comparison. The overview of bioclimatic pergola systems explains both side by side.
Blade rotation and climate control
The 100°-115° rotation range gives the operator three useful states. Closed, the blades meet on EPDM gaskets and the roof is rainproof, with water channelled away through the structure. Partly open, they filter sun and keep an airy, shaded space. Fully open, they allow the heat that builds under a roof to escape and let a breeze through.
Because the angle is adjustable in real time, the same pergola serves the breakfast sun, the afternoon glare and a light evening shower. Sensors are an option: a rain sensor can command a closed roof, and a wind sensor can protect the drive in gusts. Remote and app control can be added, and the system can share its controls with lighting, heaters and side screens.

Drive and construction
The movement system uses a linear piston plus a T12 timing belt. The belt-driven arrangement is described by the manufacturer as quiet and balanced in operation, which matters beside bedrooms, hotel rooms and dining areas.
The structure is built on aluminium 6063-T6 F25 profiles, with 12V Samsung LED lighting as an option. Motors come from Somfy, Mosel or Cuppon at 120 Nm. All units are manufactured to order, so profile sizes, colours and layout follow the project rather than a catalogue grid.

The two single-module maxima describe a wide, shallow module and a narrower, deeper one. Tell us which direction your site needs. Multiple modules can be joined for wide spans; very long projections are then reviewed with intermediate support.
Typical uses
- Villa and residential terraces: a pergola beside the living room or pool, with controlled shade and rain cover.
- Cafés and restaurants: a permanent roof for seating that needs shade control more than full opening.
- Hotel gardens and pool areas: repeated modules, matching finish and lighting.
- Courtyards and passages: where a permanent, adjustable cover is preferred over a retracting one.

Choosing piston or scissor
| Question | Piston | Scissor |
|---|---|---|
| Do you want the roof to disappear? | No, it rotates | Yes, it stacks open |
| Is fine shade control the priority? | Yes | Moderate |
| Is a constant overhead plane useful for lighting or heaters? | Yes | Only when closed |
| Maximum single module | 400 x 708 / 700 x 411 cm | 400 x 765 / 700 x 457 cm |
Neither is a "premium" version of the other. They solve two different requirements on the same frame family and warranty.
What to watch
A piston pergola does not give open sky. Even at 115° the blade edges stay in the view. It is also not an enclosure: wind-driven rain from the sides needs zip screens or glass. Sites with heavy snow need the structural check before ordering, and installers should plan the drainage post and power supply ahead of floor finishing.
Supply and warranty
Our manufacturing partner in Türkiye makes each unit to order and prices it per project. Standard warranty: five years on the motor, two years on the mechanical parts. Dealers and contractors can ask for drawings and technical data with the quotation.
Frequently Asked Questions
How far do the blades rotate?
The aluminium blades rotate between 100° and 115° on the piston mechanism, so you can set the exact amount of light, shade and ventilation. Is the roof rainproof?
Yes. In the closed position EPDM gaskets provide full rain protection, and the water is drained through the structure. Is it noisy in use?
The T12 timing-belt drive is designed to run quietly and smoothly. How large is one module?
A single module reaches 400 x 708 cm or 700 x 411 cm, and up to six modules can be combined for a 1417 cm span. Can lighting and automation be added?
Yes. 12V Samsung LED lighting is optional, and remote, app and sensor control can be specified with the motor. What is the warranty?
Five years on the motor and two years mechanical.Request a quote with your module size, location and use.
