Pergola, Awning & Glass Reference Projects Gallery

Last updated:

These ten reference projects show how our manufacturing partner's systems are used in practice: a zip screen on a villa terrace, a rolling roof over a restaurant, guillotine glass on a café façade, a glass roof on a winter garden, two awnings, and four zip screen jobs on an apartment building, a winter garden roof, a store and an office in İstanbul. Each case names the system used and links to its product page.

How to read these projects

The cases below come from Türkiye and Azerbaijan and cover residential and commercial sites. The manufacturer's project records give the location, the category (residential or commercial) and the system for each job. They do not publish dimensions, dates or client names, with one exception: the Maslak office record states its application area and year. We add nothing beyond what the records say, and where a record is thin, the case says so. Where this page describes a "challenge" or a "result", it describes the site problem the system type is designed to solve and what the finished installation shows, not measured performance figures. If you need dimensions or technical detail for a similar job, ask in your quote request and the engineering team will work from your own measurements.

Villa terrace in Mersin: vertical zip screen enclosure

Vertical zip screens enclosing the open sides of a villa terrace in Mersin

Vertical zip screens enclosing the open sides of a villa terrace in Mersin

Location and type: residential villa terrace, Mersin, Türkiye.

Challenge. A terrace with wind-exposed façades is hard to use for much of the year: wind pushes at loose fabric, rain blows in and the space cools down quickly or heats up in the sun. A free-hanging curtain or a simple roller blind flaps under those conditions and wears out early.

System used. Vertical zip screens. The fabric is locked into zipped side rails, which keeps it tensioned against the wind, and the fabric is waterproof and UV-protected. On a wind-exposed terrace that rail guidance is the reason to prefer a zip screen over a loose blind.

Result. The open sides of the terrace are enclosed with screens that sit flat in their rails. The owner can close the space against wind and rain when needed and roll the screens away when the weather is good. Fabric options with clear panels exist for keeping a view.

For fabric, motors and sizes, see the vertical zip screen page.

Restaurant terrace: scissor bioclimatic rolling roof

Wide-span restaurant terrace covered by a fully retractable scissor bioclimatic rolling roof with LED lighting

Wide-span restaurant terrace covered by a fully retractable scissor bioclimatic rolling roof with LED lighting

Location and type: commercial restaurant terrace, Türkiye.

Challenge. A restaurant terrace that earns its money in the evening needs cover against rain and midday sun, yet should feel open when the weather is good. The span is wide, so the roof cannot rely on frequent support posts that interrupt the seating plan.

System used. A scissor bioclimatic roof, also called a rolling roof, that is fully retractable. The project includes LED lighting and integrated rain drainage. Scissor systems reach 700 cm of façade in a single module and up to 1531 cm of projection with several modules, and wide spans can be bridged with intermediate columns where needed.

Result. The terrace works as a covered dining room in wet weather and as an open terrace when the roof is retracted. Lighting and drainage are integrated into the system rather than added as separate fittings.

Specification, motors and options are on the scissor bioclimatic pergola page.

Café façade in İstanbul: guillotine glass

Motorised guillotine glass on a café façade in İstanbul giving an uninterrupted view

Motorised guillotine glass on a café façade in İstanbul giving an uninterrupted view

Location and type: commercial café, İstanbul, Türkiye.

Challenge. A café on a street front wants to be open in summer and warm in winter, and its façade is its main advertisement. Folding glass leaves a bundle of panes at the edge, which blocks part of the view and can interrupt service.

System used. Guillotine standard glass: motorised panes that move vertically and stack over each other. Double-glazed options provide full insulation in winter. The standard system is produced up to 4000 x 3500 mm.

Result. The façade opens fully without divisions and keeps the view uninterrupted. When the weather turns, the panes are closed again and the café becomes an enclosed room.

See standard guillotine glass for specifications, or compare with sliding systems in guillotine vs sliding glass.

Winter garden in Antalya: glass roof

Laminated glass roof over a residential winter garden in Antalya admitting daylight

Location and type: residential winter garden, Antalya, Türkiye.

Challenge. A winter garden should bring in as much daylight as possible, yet the roof also has to carry glass safely and shed water. A solid roof defeats the purpose of the room, and weak glazing is not an option for a space people sit under.

System used. A glass roof system with laminated glass, carried on an aluminium or steel structure. Glass roofs are produced with tempered or laminated panels and can be fixed or movable. This one maximises daylight in the winter garden.

Result. The room receives natural light across the day. Combined with guillotine glass and zip screens, a glass roof can form an all-season, openable living space. A winter garden is glazed and fixed, so it behaves as a room all year; if you want a roof that opens, look at bioclimatic pergolas instead.

Storefront: cassette awning

Motorised cassette awning above a high-street storefront in Türkiye

Location and type: commercial storefront on a street, Türkiye.

Challenge. A shop window facing the sun suffers glare, heat and faded goods, and the awning is exposed to dust, rain and street dirt every day. An awning that is left open all the time wears out its fabric.

System used. A motorised cassette awning. When closed, the fabric and the whole mechanism are protected inside an aluminium cassette, which significantly extends fabric life. Fabric choices include acrylic, PVC and polyester, and control can be manual, motorised, remote or smartphone.

Result. The shopfront gets shade on demand and a clean look when the awning is retracted. The fabric is covered when not in use instead of hanging in the weather.

Details are on the cassette awning page.

Garden seating area in Baku: oval awning

Special-form oval awning shading a residential garden seating area in Baku, Azerbaijan

Special-form oval awning shading a residential garden seating area in Baku, Azerbaijan

Location and type: residential garden seating area, Baku, Azerbaijan.

Challenge. A garden seating area needs shade, and a standard rectangular canopy is not always the best fit for the shape of a garden or for the look the owner wants.

System used. An oval awning, a special-form awning with a rounded profile, available with manual or motorised operation and made in project-specific sizes and fabrics. It is more often used over shopfronts, entrances and balconies, which makes this garden installation a good example of its design flexibility.

Result. The seating area gets shade under a rounded canopy that adds character to the garden. This is also an export reference: the system was supplied to a market outside Türkiye.

See the oval awning page.

Apartment building in Antalya: balcony, pool-side and interior screens

Dark zip screens lowered over the balconies of a multi-storey residential building under a blue sky

Location and type: residential apartment building, Antalya, Türkiye. The record gives the city and the category only, with no client, dimensions or date.

Challenge. Balconies on upper floors catch more wind than a ground-level terrace, and in a block of flats each balcony also needs privacy and sun control that the neighbours can live with. A loose curtain does neither well, and a fixed glazing change is a bigger job than most residents want.

System used. Zip screens on the balcony openings, with the fabric locked in side rails so it stays flat on the façade. The same project carries a zip screen at a pool edge, a ceiling-mounted screen indoors, and plain roller screens at tall interior windows. The record does not say whether the interior units are zip type.

Result. The photographs show matching dark screens on the balconies, a screen standing at the water's edge of a pool without a solid wall, and light fabrics softening the daylight in rooms with tall windows. No performance figures are given.

Winter garden roof screens: zip screens over glass

Close view of a grey zip screen lying over a dark-framed glass roof, with a garden path beside it

Location and type: winter garden with a glass roof. The record gives neither a city nor a client, and no dimensions or date.

Challenge. The glass roof that makes a winter garden bright also makes it hot and glaring when the sun is high. Side walls cannot help, because the sun comes in from above.

System used. A zip screen installed on the roof itself, in a dark aluminium frame, laid over the glass. In the photographs the fabric covers part of the roof while the glass beside it stays clear, so the room can be shaded in sections rather than all at once.

Result. The screen is meant to hold sun and heat back at the roof instead of inside the room, and it can be drawn back when winter light is welcome. The record shows no measured results. Combined with side screens, the same structure can be closed in on all faces; see glass roof systems and the winter garden page.

Store: large zip screens on glazed façades

Tall grey zip screen above a glazed sliding door on the ground floor of a yellow-walled building

Location and type: store, commercial. The record gives no city, client, dimensions or date, and one of its category labels does not match its title, so we describe the job from the photographs only.

Challenge. A glazed front takes the sun all day, heats the shop floor and fades stock, and a street-level opening also needs weather and dust control. A solid shutter would hide the shop.

System used. Large vertical zip screens in grey fabric, set over doors and glass walls and, on the longer fronts, in a row of panels separated by posts. Several photographs show the screen edge beside a door frame, where the rail and the door have to work together.

Result. With the panels down the façade looks calm and uniform; raised, the shop front is visible again. The long fronts are split into several screens, which keeps the width of each one manageable.

Office in Maslak, İstanbul: ceiling, front, side and interior screens

Ceiling zip screen under an office skylight with a pale curtain hanging at the side

Location and type: commercial office, Maslak, İstanbul, Türkiye. The record states an application area of 450 m² and the year 2023, and names no client beyond the office itself.

Challenge. An office with skylights and glass roofs gains solar heat from above as well as through the façade, and screen glare on desks follows. Shading has to work overhead, at the front and sides, and inside, which is more than one product type usually covers.

System used. Zip screens installed from the ceiling down, at the front and the sides, indoors and outdoors. In the photographs they appear over skylights and roof glazing, on a pool terrace, in an interior hall and under a pergola-style roof.

Result. The record describes the scope as zip screens from the ceiling down at the front, sides, inside and outside across 450 m², which makes this the only job on the page with a stated area. It does not give energy or comfort measurements.

What the projects have in common

All ten jobs start from a site condition: wind, rain, glare, a wide span, heat from a glass roof or a view worth keeping. The system was chosen to answer that condition, not the other way around. Three practical lessons carry across projects:

  1. Describe the problem, not just the product. "Terrace windy on two sides" tells the engineers more than "I need a zip screen".

  2. Give measurements early. Sizes decide which module or span solution applies.

  3. Plan the installer. The manufacturer ships systems packed for installation and supports local teams remotely; it does not install abroad.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get detailed drawings of these projects?

Not from this page. Describe a similar project in your quote request and the technical team will prepare drawings from your own measurements.

Are the projects all in Türkiye?

Every project with a stated location is in Türkiye except the oval awning garden in Baku, Azerbaijan. For the winter garden roof and the store, the manufacturer's records give no location. The manufacturer exports to 72 countries.

Can you combine systems in one project?

Yes. Pergolas can be combined with zip screens and guillotine glass, and glass roofs with guillotine glass and zip screens. Mention the combination in your enquiry so it is engineered as one system.

Do you install these systems?

No. Systems are tested at the factory and packed ready to install; a dealer or local team installs them with manuals and remote support.

How do I start a similar project?

Send your sizes, country and the system or problem to the export team through the quote form.
